Mohammad Shahzad Mohammadi is an Afghan cricketer born on January 10, 1988. He is a right-handed opening batter and wicketkeeper. In August 2009, he made his international debut for Afghanistan.

In June 2018, Shahzad was one of eleven cricketers in Afghanistan’s first-ever Test match against India. Shahzad also holds the uncommon distinction of hitting an ODI century in an ODI against a side with the lowest team score (against India in the Asia Cup 2018), equaling Pakistan’s Shahid Afridi’s previous record.

ODI Career

Shahzad participated in the 2009 ICC World Cup Qualifiers, where Afghanistan earned ODI status following a 73-run victory over Namibia. On 30 August 2009, Shahzad made his ODI debut at VRA Cricket Ground during Afghanistan’s visit to the Netherlands. 

He made Afghan cricketing history in the second match of the series by becoming the first Afghan to achieve a century in a One Day International match, scoring 110 runs as Afghanistan won by 6 wickets.

Shahzad was a member of Afghanistan’s ACC Trophy Elite winning team in 2010, which defeated Nepal by 95 runs in the final.

Shahzad represented Afghanistan in the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division One event in July 2010.

T20 Career

Shahzad made his Twenty20 International debut against Ireland in February 2010 as part of a tri-series leading up to the 2010 World Twenty20 Qualifier.

Shahzad was later a significant member of Afghanistan’s side for the World Twenty20 Qualifier, scoring 65 in Afghanistan’s victorious run chase against Ireland in the event final. He was later picked for Afghanistan’s World Twenty20 team.

Shahzad struck three half-centuries in the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, including one in the tournament final against Ireland. Afghanistan lost the match but still qualified for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20. He appeared in both of Afghanistan’s World Twenty20 matches against India and South Africa.
